Note to Lee V. Gossick i
i From:
Stephen H. Hanauer
SUBJECT:
" ACCEPTABLE RISK" t
It does not seem to me that Hugh Thompson's approach (draft -
Enclosure A) is a good one, or even viable.
1.
Levine states that the Commission has assigned the subject I'
to him. See M80-ll Item G, p. 34 (Enclosure B).
Enclosure C is f
his present view from a recent speech.
2.
A lengthy exchange between you and Rowe, in which Rusche figured (Enclosure C) has not gotten anywhere much, f
3.
NMSS has two related programs at LLL to develop acceptable risk quantities for high-level and low-level radioactive waste (Enclosure D).
I recommend you discuss this with office directore, and confirm the assignment of the lead to RES. A steering comittee of all offices chaired by RES would be a good idea. Wall already has some such assignment but so far has not been able to make any progress.
