\\...../

FEB 2g 1999 DOCKET NOS.

and 50-306 Northern States Power Congny ATTN: Mr. L. O. Mayer, Manager Nuclear Support Services 414 Nicollet Mall - 8th Floor Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401 Gentlemen:

We have received a copy of your application dated January 31,1980, which you filed with the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (0NRR) for review and approval.

The application is for modification of the spent fuel storage facility for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit Nos. 1 and 2, and was accompanied by Classes III and I fees totalling $4,400.

Based on guidance from the ONRR staff as a result of a preliminary review of your appliccation, it has been determined that the review for your particu-lar spent fuel pool expansion involves consideration of a complex issue. As such, a Class IV fee ($12,300) is required for Unit No. I rather than a Class III fee.

The Class I duplicate fee which you paid for Unit No. 2 is still appropriate.

It is requested that your Company promptly remit an additional $8,300 to this office.

If the final review of your application by the ONRR staff reveals that this fee is incorrect, you will be refunded any overpayment or be asked to pay any additional amount due.

Sincerely, A
