MEMORANDUM FOR:#J. Murphy, Probabilistic Analusis Staff RES FRON:

J. Angelo, Task Manager, Task A-17, Systems Interaction in Nuclear Power Plants A

SUBJECT:

EVALUATION OF FAULT TREES FOR TASK A-17 Enclosed are fault trees for the reactor coolant pressure boundary safety function which is one of the three safety functions that will be studied in Task A-17.

The other two functions that will be studied are decay heat removal and reactor subcriticality. Also enclosed is a letter from Sandia Laboratories which explains the operational conditions and occurrences that i

are covered by these fault trees.

5.3 series will be submitted to us by Sandia soon. Two additional fault trees in the Figu j

We request that you review these fault trees and give us advice or guidance I

on revising the logic of the trees as necessary. We plan to visit Sandia i

Laboratories on August 8-9, 1979 to discuss these particular fault trees, I

so we would appreciate receiving your comments before our departure on August 7, if possible.

You are, of course, invited to participate in the l

meeting at Sandia Laboratories.
