TOLEDO EDIS0N COMPANY DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT ONE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR LER NP-33-79-143 DATE OF EVENT: December 7, 1979 FACILITY: Davis-Besse Unit 1 IDENTIFICATION OF OCCURRENCE: Service Water Pump #2 Strainer Motor inoperable Conditions Prior to Occurrence: The unit was in Mode 5, with Power (hWT) = 0, and Load (Gross MWE) = 0.

Description of Occurrence: At 1618 hours0.0187 days <br />0.449 hours <br />0.00268 weeks <br />6.15649e-4 months <br /> on December 7, 1979, a fire wa- reported in the service water pump room. Upon further investigation, operations found that there was no fire but the Service Water Pump #3 strainer motor had burned up which generated smoke in the room.

This occurrence is being reported to document a component failure. Technical Speci-fication 3.7.4.1 requires that two independent service water loops be operable in Modes 1 through 4. Since the station was in Mode 5, no action statement was entered.

Designation of Accarent Cause of becurrence: The apparent cause of the event was single phasing in breaker BE1280 on Motor Control Center (MCC) E12C. The cause of the single phasing is still being investigated.

Analysis of Occurrence: There was no danger to the health and safety of the public or to station personnel. The #3 Service Water Pump and strainer areredundant in the Service Water System. Also since the unit was in Mode 5, the affected service water string was not required.

Corrective Action: Breaker BE1280 was repaired under MWO 79-3724 on December 12, 1979 and placed back into service. The motor is presently being repaired under Maintenance Work Order 79-3724. The cause of single phasing in BE1280 is being investigated under the same maintenance work order.

Failure Data: There have been no previous similar reportable occurrences.
