SUBJECT:

ALTERNATE DECAY HEAT REMOVAL SYSTEM (A DH P,5 )

The following issues have been resolved during my stay at THI from 5/16/79 - 5/17/79 Documcaration will be provided by June 4, 1979 1.

Mechanical-Seismic analysis of the piping supports and skids:

The total system has been analyzed bv Westinchouse fur the SSE.

Tney compared the floor responses with the peak ground resoonse and deter-ined that the floor response is higner of the two.

The analysis was done for both horizontal and vertical accelera-tion and the two directions were combined by absol ute summa *. ion The report will be submitted for review by June 4, 1979 St octural:

Integration of the piping moaule with the wall.

The loads from thermal and seismic analyses will be transmitted into the wall by the 3/4"/ wedge ancnors on the periphery of the 3/L" plate and by the shims located at the inside end of the pipe sleeves.

It was found that the bolts and plate are capable to withstand the imposed loads.

This will be reported by W on or aoout June 4, 1979 together with report for me inical piping system.

2.

Study of the impact of the penetration on st ructural integrity o# the wall is being crepared by the Burns and Roe Co. and will be reported later for review.

3 Criteria for the valve room cesign.

Thie is a Category I structure.

Its failure could damage the piping (Class I) below.

GPU is preparing the structural design er iteria which will be. submitted for review when completed.

4.

OfA and Q/C program for the modifications.

V will resolve this 4

matter either today or shortly in the future.

It will be the same programs as

  • hat originally approved durina the FSAR review.

If any ex.eptions are taken they will be reported to the,NRC for ap,,roval.

R.G.l.94 will be incorporated in the new criteria.
