This letter is a partial response 'to your request for infor=ation postmarked March 5,1979. The recent events at the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania have consumed the time of those individuals in NRC responsible for emergency preparedness. I will respond to all your requests except that on evacuation plans.
Mr. Harold Collins, Assistant Director for Emergency Preparedness will address those concerns in a separate letter.

Americium 241. L've enclosed a table of quantities distributed nation-wide, a list of distributors,' and the NRC regulations,10 CFR 32 (see sections 32.25, 32.27 and 32.29). I've also enclosed for your information a paper delivered at the 1973 Health Physics Society Midyear Symposium; and also some correspondence between NRC and The Public
- Citizen and EPA and the Matural Resources Defense Council.
Additionally, the NRC is currently engaged in a study of consu=er products containing radioactive material. Ionization chamber smoke detectors containing Americiu:n 241 are an integral part of this. The environmental impact statement to be developed as a result of the study will be available in the fall 1979.
I will add your name to the mailing list to receive N.tC press releases, notification of NRC documents that are aveCable and the Infor-::ation Report on State Legislation. Copies of NUREG-0301, "NRC Publications" is enclosed.
