Dear Mr. MacDonald:
Description of a Quality Assurance Program For Shipping Packages of Radicactive Material In accordance with 10 CFR 71.51, a description of a quality assurance program entitled " Solid Radioactive Waste Packaging Quality Assurance Program" is being submitted for approval.
Because of an immediate need to make a Type B shipment, it is reques ted that your review and approval of this document receive prompt attention or, as an interim solution to our problem, grant permission for the Type B shipment described in the attached application.
With the station preparing to start refueling in the next several months, this shipment is required in order to place a reactor coolant system purification demineralizer in service to lower system activity and reduce radiation workers' exposure to as low as reasonably achievable during the outage.
