Dear Mr. Groce:
The Maine Yankee Monthly Statistical Report submitted October 10, 1978 refers to the failure of one of the station's two half-capacity main transformers.
Based on discussions with your staff it is our under-standing that this failure caused degradation of the offsite power supply and resulted in station loads being powered from the emergency diesels. Because of the undesirable effect loss of station output had on the offsite power supply, you are requested to describe in detail the cause of transformer failure and the sequence of events associated with this incident.
Please include your assessment of why offsite power was unable to pick up station loads.
You are requested to respond within 30 days from the date of this letter.
