REFERENCE:

Atlanta, GA 30303 Y IE: II: WBS 50-424/78-9 Attention: Mr. C. E. Murphy 50-425/78-9 File: X7BG10 Gentlemen:

The Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the noncompliance discussed in your inspection report number 50-424/78-9 and 50-425/78-9.

No safety related concrete has been poured since your November 28 - 30, 1978 inspection.

Georgia Power Company (GpC) has conducted a training course on vibration consolidation of concrete for appropriate Walsh Construction Company, the civil contractor, and GPC inspection personnel. This training course will be repeated, as required, to assure proper vibration consolidation of concrete.

Upon resumption of concrete placement, concrete samples for testing will be taken at the point of placement as required by ACI standards.

Samples will be taken at both the pump and at the pump discharge. The appropriate test data will be correlated to comply with paragraph 6.11 of ANSI N45.2.5 1978. Correlation of the test data should be completed after placement of approximately 5000 yards of concrete.

The Georgia Power Company is confident that the above actions will greatly improve the quality of concrete placement and testing. Full compliance will be achieved upon resumption of concrete placement, which is scheduled for February 1, 1979.

The information contained in the inspection report is not considered to be proprietary.

Very truly ,yours, 7901290132. '
