Dear Sirs and Madame:
This is in reply to your letter to Dr. Smith dated December 12, 1978 urging the permanent shutdown of the nuclear reactor facility at the Vallecitos Nuclear Center of the General Electric Company.
The matter of suspension of opera-tion of the General Electric Test Reactor is presently pending before an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board in accordance with the Memorandum and Order issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on February 13, 1978. A public hearing on this matter will be held locally in the near future.
We are treating your letter as a statement of position with respect to the matters in issue in this proceeding and, accordingly, are forwarding it to the presiding Atouic Safety and Licensing Board for its considera-tion as a written limited appearance statement.
