Georgia Power Company hereby submits the following information as a partial response to your letter of July 11, 1979, which transmitted Bulletin 79-15, " Deep Draft Pump Deficien_ies".

The bulletin addressed deficiencies that had been identified in deep draft pumps manufactured by Ingersoll Rand Company for use as High Pressure Core Spray, Low Pressure Core Spray, and Residual Heat Removal (RHR) Pumps. The information below is in response to items 1, 2, and 3 of the bulletin. Items 4, 5, and 6 require extensive research into the maintenance and operatonal records for each pump and will be provided in a supplemental response by Octobet 31, 1979.

Item 1 There are a total of twenty-three deep draft vertical pumps similar to those shown in figures 1 and 2 of the bulletin that are used in safety related applications at Plant Hatch. Seventeen pumps are of the vertical turbine type shown. in figure 1 and six are of the type shown in figure 2.

Item 2 The seventeen safety related pumps mentioned above nre made by Johnston Pump Co., Glendora, Ga. and the ather six pumps are made by Ingersoll-Rand, Carneron Pump Division, Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

The following data is a pump by pump breakdown stating the pump manufacturer, model or serial no, the rated capacity, and plant application:

Manufacturer Johnston Pump Co.; serial nos.

GC-2751 thru 54, rated capacity is 8500 GPM at a Tctal Dynamic Head of 250 feet.

Unit 2 2 Ell-C001A, B, C, and D - RHR Service Water Pumps:

Serial nos. NE-3561 thru 64, rated capacity is 4000 GPM at a Total Dynamic Head of 955 feet.

2P41-C001A, B, C, and D - Plant Service Water Pumps:

Manufacturer Johnston Pump Co.; serial nos. NE 3565 thru 68, rated capacity is 8500 GPM at a Total Dynamic Head of 275 feet.

2P41-C002 - Standby Diesel Service Water Pump:

Manufacturer Johnston Pump Co.; serial no NG-2273, pump rated capacity is 700 GPM at a Total Dynamic Head of 231.5 feet.

This pump is used as a backup pump to cool the diesels should Plant Service water pump be inoperable.

2 Ell-C002A, B C, and D - RHR Pumps:

3 Manuf acturer Ingeraoll-Rand, model no 28-APKD-2, pump rated capaci-is 7700 GPP st a Total Dynamic Head of 420 feet.

2E21-C001A and B - Core Spray Pumps:

Manufacturer Ingerso?.1-Rand; model no. 27-APKD-5; the pump rated capacity is 4700 GPM at a Total Dynamic Head of 280 feet.

Item 3 The overs 11 dimensions of the pumps are shown on the enclosed copies of the sectional views for all the pumps mentioned above. The following is a list of the associated pumps and the related prints.
