Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In accordance with the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e), NRC Region !! was notified on November 22, 1973 that possible weld burn through and the resulting splatter exists on interior surfaces of the High Density Spant Fuel R ack s.

Our engineering evaluation to determine if a problem does exist and if it is of potential safety significance is still in progress. This 30-day report, therefore, shall be considered an interim report. A final report documenting the results of our investigation and the corrective action, if any, will follove as soon ss our engineering evaluation is complete.
