Gentlemen:

n This refers to the routine inspection conducted by Messrs. W. J. Slawinski and S. R. Lasuk of this office on November 20, 1980, of activities at The William Powell Company authorized by NRC Dyproduct Material License No. 34-02963-01 and to the discussion of our findings with Donald Rarger and Bob Ross at the conclusion of the inspection.

The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license.

The inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.

In addition to the above areas, the inspectors examined actions described in your letter dated March 30, 1978, regarding the radiation surveys performed at the Chatfield Paper Company. We have no further questions regarding these matters.

During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in non-compliance with NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Appendix A.

During the discussions at the conclusion of the inspection, our inspectors expressed concern over your failure to follow up on the required response to IE Bulletin 80-22, " Automation Industries, Model 200-520-008 Sealed Source Connectors" dated September 11, 1980. This Bulletin required you to report, in writing, within 30 days from the date of this Bulletin, a report of your actions. Thus far, we do not have a record of your response to the Bulletin.

You are reminded such response is required.
