Non-Conformance of B3-1 Shipping Cask.

Dear Sir:

On March 12, 1979 we informed you pursuant to 10 CFR 71.61 that our Model B3-1 shipping casks used under Certificate of Compliance 6058 were removed from service pending resolution of an identified item of non-conformance.

In subsequent review of this matter it was also found that the B3-1 lifting lugs have been fabricated out of stainless steel rather than Cor-ten as specified and that they are attached somewhat differently than shown in the print referenced in the Certificate.

Each of the items of non-conformance will be appropriately re-solved prior to returning the casks to service.
