VIItOINIA EI.ucrIIIC AND Poweiz COMPANY HICIIMOND,V1RGIN IA 20P61 March 27, 1979 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Serial No. 178 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation LQA/ESG:esh Attn:
Mr. O. D. Parr, Chief Light Water Reactors Branch No. 3 Docket Nos. 50-338 Division of Project Management 50-339 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Mr. Denton:
Our letter, Serial No. 005, dated January 12, 1979, provided you with a detailed discussion of the contents of Amendment 65 to the North Anna Units 1 and 2 FSAR. As noted in that letter, the primary purpose of the amendment was to update the FSAR to reflect modifications made to the station since the submittal of Amendment 64 in 1977. This update process will be completed by Amendment 66, which will be submitted shortly.
At the request of the Staff, we have examined the applicability to Unit 1 of Amendment 65.
The majority of the changes consisted of typographical, reference or other editorial corrections; described plant design features, modi-fications or analyses previously made known to the NRC; or applied to Unit 2 only. Where changes relating to Unit I had not been previously described to the NRC, it has been determined that none of these revisions involve an unreviewed safety question, as defined in 10 CFR 50.59.
Consequently, the amendment, as it applies to Unit 1, is an update only, and should not be considered as an applica-tion or a request for NRC review.
Very truly yours, N M. tids'g.2 C. M. Stallings Vice President-Power Supply and Production Operations
