Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
In response to your letter of December 18, 1978, transmitting IE Bulletin 78-14, Carolina Power & Light Company is submitting the following information.
Three items regarding the deterioration of Buna-N components in ASCO solenoid valves were expressed in IE Bulletin 78-14.
Item 1 The seven year recommended life for presently in-service CRD Buna-N materials was investigated. Buna-N pressure and exhaust diaphragms (including body gaskets), referenced in SIL-128, were replaced during Fall, 1976, for Unit No. I and during March, 1976, for Unit No. 2.
Additional Buna-N valve components mentioned in SIL-128, Revision 1, Supplement 1, have not been replaced.
The following valves were shipped to Unit No. I during June, 1971, and to Unit No. 2 during March,1971.
