Dear Mr. Larson:
This letter is in reference to an inspection of your operation on Nove=ber 2 and Dece:ber 6, 1979, and to a telephone discussion between you and Mr. Jerry Everett of my staff on Dece:ber 11, 1979.
The discussion was concerned with your receipt, use, transfer and disposal of source material under the provisions of a general license authorized in 10 CFR 40.22(a).
As a result of the telephone discussion on Dececher 11, it is our understanding that you will:
1.
Cease disposal of radioactive materials into your laboratory sanitary sewer.
2.
Cease disposal of radioactive caterial into soil.
In addition, we understand that, within 30 days, you will:
(1) institute clean-up operations of disposal sites, equipment and surfaces outside of your laboratory, (2) package contaminated soil and waste into containers and make disposal by transfer to an authorized recipient, and (3) decont.=inate equip =ent and surfaces outside your laboratory to, or below, a level of 15,000 dpm (alpha) per 100 cm2 (1,000 dpm/100 cm2 re=ovable) and to a radiation level (beta-ga=ma) of not greater than 0.2 mrad per hour at 1 centimeter.
