Dear Dr. Brunner:
Relative to the items of non-compliance cited in Appendix A of your letter of 24 January 1979, we have the following comments:
A.
The written procedures for regeneration of our pool water purifi-cation resins have been substantially unchanged, except for occasional added clarifying comments, for the past eighteen years.
They were written by mem-bers of the RHSC based on the original documents supplied by GE and the demineralizer manufacturer. At least one member of the RHSC and/or a licensed operator has always been in charge of the regeneration operation.
- However, it is true that our archives do not show formal acceptance of these procedures by the committee. At the January committee meeting of the RHSC a sub-committee consisting of the campus radiological safety officer and Dr. Crusberg, a water quality specialist conmittee member from our Life Science Department, was appointed to review tne pertinent procedures and report back to the RHSC with their recommendations. Their report and the connittee action on it is expected to be completed in time for the April RHSC meeting but in any case will be completed prior to the next demineralizer regeneration operation.
B.
On July 17, 1978, the RHSC held a committee meeting with three com-mittee members and Dean Bolz present.
Since Dr. Bolz appoints the committee and is himself an engineer with far more than adequate qualifications to serve on the committee, the group assumed they were meeting the WPI quorum require-ments of four members present. We will endeavor to conform to our RHSC Procedural Rules more precisely in the future.
Please note that President George Hazzard retired in 1978 and Dr. Edmund Cranch is now President of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
If any further information is required, please notify us.
Sincerely (W
