Re: In the Matter of FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT  % /g COMPANY (St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant, m s Unit No. 2) -

Docket No. 50-389

Dear Mr. Paton:

At the meeting of May 16, 1979, in Washington, D. C.,

the NRC Staff requested and FPL agreed to provide documentation of the information presented. This information will be supplied in the form of the prepared written testimony required by ALAB-537.

Enclosed are the following:

1. Joint Testimony of Michel P. Armand, Ernest L. Bivans, and Wilfred E. Coe Relating to Quesuions Al and D of ALAB-537; and
2. Testimony of George E. Liebler Relating to Question C of ALAB-537.

Copies of this testimony simultaneously have been filed with the Board and served on the parties.

Similarly, we shall file and serve prepared written testimony addressing Questions A2, 31, B 2 , B3 and B4, probably not later than June 8, 1979.

The App =al Board was apparently not served with copies of the " Summary o Meeting Held on May 16, 1979" dated May 22, 1979, prepared by Ralph A. Birkel. Would you please take steps to see that this is done?

f STcct HECTOR & D AVI S Page 2 FPL personnel who participated at the May 16 meeting and have reviewed the Summary have indicated that, as written, it is not entirely clear in two respects and could be made more precise and consistent with the information presented as follows:

1. Paragraph No. 1, change last sentence to read:

" Natural circulation in conjunction with the steam driven auxiliary feedwater system could safely remove heat during the entire period and the plant could be cooled down in five to six hours following the res-toration of AC power."

2. Paragraph No. 2, change " generating capacity" to " unit", so that the last sentence reads:

"The transmission system is predicated to recover in about 60 seconds after loss of any major unit on the FPL system."

Very truly yours,j ,e
