MAR 141979 Dr. Klaus B. Stadie, Head Nuclear Safety Division Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development tiuclear Energy Agency 38, Boulevard Suchet 75016 Paris FRAtlCE

Dear Dr. Stadie:

Subject:

RESPONSE TO PROPOSED AGENDA Dr. Z. Rouhani's letter to Dr. D. F. Ross, Jr., USNRC, dated February 6,1979 provided two proposed agendas for the meetings of the Standard Problem Workshop and the Working Group on Emergency Core Cooling in Water Reactors to be held in June 1979 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA. We generally find both agendas acceptable.

The agenda for the Standard Problem Workshop is generally consistent with the detailed agenda proposal transmitted to Dr. Rouhani by Mr. L. E. Phillips' letter dated February 2,1979. A copy is attached.

Our only additional comment is tnat we propose to include in Dr. Rouhani's agenda item 7 "Any Other Business" the response to action item ten identified from the June 1978 Working Group meeting.

In response to action item ten identified in SIND0C (78) 139 and in paragraph thirteen of SEN/ SIN (78) 60 Dr. S. Fabic will sponsor a presentation regarding the long-range plans for and purposes of the Standard Problem Program.

The US attendees at the Workshop are likely to be Mr. L. E. Phillips, Mr. M. McCoy, and Dr. S. Fabic of the USNRC and representatives from the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) and the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL).

We look forward to receiving a copy of the finalized agenda for the Standard Problem Workshop.

With respect to the agenda for the meeting of the Working Group on ECC we have the following comments which indicate our planned participation in response to the named agenda items.

For agenda item 6 (iii) Dr. S. Fabic or Dr. H. Sullivan will present a sumary discussion regarding the long-range plans and purposes of the Standard Problem calculations. This is pursuant to action item number ten identified in SIND0C (78) 139 and in paragraph thirteen of SEN/ SIN (78) 60.
