Dear Sir:

On January 31, 1979, a report was made under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) concerning the lack of seismic supports and missile protection for the emergency diesel generator mufflers.

In accordance with the reporting requirements of 10CFR21, the following information is submitted:

North Anna Power Station, Unit 2 Emergency Diesel Generator Mufflers C. Name of firm constructing the facility or supplying the component, activity or service.

Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation P. O. Box 2325 Boston, Massachusetts 02107 D. Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to comply:

The present supports for the emergency diesel generator mufflers were not designed to withstand seismic effects. The mufflers are also not missile protected. The mufflers form part of the exhaust system of the emergency diesel generatcr and, if damaged, could increase back-pressure to the extent of rendering the emergency diesel generators inoperable.
