.7 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 & 2 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 AND DPR-62 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 AND 50-324 RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-18

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response to your letter of August 7, 1979, transmitting IE Bulletin 79-18 concerning audibility problems encountered on evacuation of personnel from high noise areas, Carolina Power & Light Company submits the following information.

An investigation was conducted to determine all areas at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant where audibility, of the various alares (fire, evacuation, etc.) was degraded due to high noise background, lack of local speakers, or inoperability of local installed speakers.

The inoperable speakers were repairrd, and locations were identified in an Engineering Work Request, whert additional speakers are to be installed. Present plans are to inst all these additional speakers at designated areas as indicated on E". closure 1 to ensure audibility throughout the plant.

Due to availability and long lead time (six months) of the cable required for the PA system, these modifications cannot be completed within the required 120 days from the issuance of IE Bulletin 79-18.

This cable is presently on order, and the manufacturer cannot provide a delivery date. We plan to have these modifications completed within 120 days from receipt of the required cable. The inaccessible areas (Items 4 and 11) will be completed during the first refueling outage following receipt of the required cable.
