y p 3'; p7a Docket flo. 50-309 Emergency Preparedness Officers Box 283 R. F. D.

Damariscotta Lincoln County, Maine C4543 Gentl emen:

I an pleased to respond to your August 7, 1979 request that the September refueling outage of the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station be extende<i to permit your review and actions regarding emer pncy preparedness for the Maine Yankee vicinity.

The Maine Yankee Emergency Plan meets the Commission's current standards for energency planning,10 CFR Part 50, Appendix E.

We reviewed the Maine Yankee Energency Plan and found it to be satisfactory in support of facility licensing. We have a program under way to rereview the energency plans of all operating reactors including Maine Yankee.

This program will result in the upgrading of energency plans. The State of Itaine*is also nevaluating its current Radiological Incident P1an.

Since the Maine Yankee Energency Plan meets or* curreht requirenents we do not believe that a shutdown of Maine Yankee at this tine is warranted by the fact that the facility energency plan as well n state and local plans are under review.

In addition, the Maine Yankee refue!ieg outage is currently scheduled to begin in January 1980.

Sincerely,

{
