APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Duke Power Company License Nos.
CPPR-167 CPPR-168 Cherokee, Units 1, 2, & 3
& CPPR-169 Based on the NRC inspection July 10-13, 1979, certain of your activities were apparently not conducted in full complianc-with NRC requirements as indicated below. These items have been categorized as described in correspondence to you dated December 31, 1974.
As required by 10 CFR, Appendix B, Criterion IX and implemented by Duke Power Company Topical Report Paragraph 17.1.9, measures shall be established to assure that special processe s including welding be accomplished using qualified procedures in accordant-with applicable codes. Paragraph QW-201.1 of ASME Section IX requires that h1 ding Procedure Specification must list specific facts involved in qualifying a weld procedure specification.
Contrary to the above, on July 11, 1979, the code required specific facts (nonessential variables), " width, frequency, or dwell time of oscillation" and peening were not addressed in Welding Procedure Specifications for the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process.
This is a deficiency.
