I&E letter to YAEC dated 3/30/79 I&E Bulletin No. 79-04

Subject:

Response to I&E Bulletin No. 79-04 In response to your letter of March 30, 1979, I&E Bulletin 79-04, Yankee Atomic Electric Company hereby submits the following information relative to swing check valves manufactured by the Velan Engineering Corporation.

Item 1, Response:

Yankee Nuclear Power Station has in use at this time 3, 4 and 6 inch diameter swing check valves manufactured by Velan Engineering Corporation. These valves are located in the plant's emergency core cooling system (ECCS).

Item 2, Response:

The ECCS system at Yankee Nuclear Power Station was designed in accordance with the requirements of ANSI B31.1-1967.

The small difference in valve weights is more than compensated for by the inherent conservatism of the design code.

Item 3, Response:

The design methods for the Yankee Nuclear Power Station are currently being reviewed as part of the SEP. Should any re-evaluations be required 7 9 0 613 01c6

As stated above, the small change in valve weight hcs an insignificant effect on system stresses. No reanalysis is required at this time.
