Dear Mr. Hendrie:
b I am writing you to request that the. Nuclear Regulatory Commission conduct
- ="
full public hearings into the issue of venting radioactive gases from Unit F1.;
Number II at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in my district.
... fi
? -?
Many of my constituents have voiced their concern about the safety and the necessity of allowing Metropolitan Edison to discharge any type of radioactive material from the crippled reactor.
I share their concerns and want to
=
reinforce their views.
That is why I am asking you to schedule public hearings to fully examine the issue before a decision is made.
I believe it would be in the public interest to conduct hearings on this
.15~~
issue.
There are many questions that need to be answered before a decision on venting radioactive gases can be made.
I feel conducting its evaluation in the form of public hearings would be of good value to the NRC.
The issues here are complex, and because of the situation inside the reactor, I realize time is very important, but I feel the NRC has an obligation to consider every possible alternative before making its decision.
~ "n I would also request that such hearings be held in the Harrisburg area.
This is the area that has been most affected by the March 28 incident at Three Mile Island, and where the residents are most fearful of the affects of exposure due to venting of gases.
Lt,would be most appropriate to hold i.: j hearings in this area.

.3 I look forward to hearing your response ^o this request.
