Nuclear Science and Engineering Program Ward Laboratory November 12, 1979 Docket Nos. 50-157 50-97 Inspection 50-157-79-02 50-97/79-01 Mr. Eldon J. Brunner, Chief Reactor Operations and Nuclear Support Branch U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406

Dear Mr. Brunner:

This letter is in response to your letter of October 19 regarding the above referenced inspection by Mr. L. Briggs on September 25-27, 1979.

We acknowledge the two infractions stated in Appendix A of your letter (failure to hold Safety Committee meetings at the agreed fre-quency, and an interval of almost 15 months between two fuel inspections instead cf the agreed 14-month maximum) and have taken the following corrective steps.

We are consolidating and augmenting several previous tickler files into a master one which we expect will prevent future instances of miss-ing deadlines and frequencies for meetings, inspections, and similar activities. We plan to have this master tickler file set up and in use before December 1, 1979.

If further information is necessary or there are questions, please let us know.

Sincerely yours, h4 David D. Clark Professor; Director, Ward Laboratory
