] M RMATION FACSIMILE FOR AN IMMEDIATELT REPORTABLE EVENT
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
This facsimile confirms the telephone conversation between Mr. A. C. Tellison, Jr., and Mr. W. T. Cottle of your office at 1545 on May 25,1979.
During reanalyses of Brunswick 17ait Nos.1 and 2 safety-related piping systems resulting frem the requirements of IE Bulletin 79-07, it was determined that six hanger supports in the main staan safety relief and HFCI systems did not have the necessary capability to carry calculated loads under worst case seismic conditions.
Since this did not meet F5AR comitments, Carolina Power & Light Company decided to shut down both units until the supports could be strengthened.
Corrective actions are in nrogress at this time. A Licensee Event Report (se-quential report number 40) will he submitted as required by Technical specifica-tien 6.9.1.8.1 within 14 days providing further information on chia subject.
Very truly yours, A. C. Tbilison, J. Manager Brunswick Steam Electric Plant JFT/nre Y
