Dear Sir:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Occket Nos. STN 5" 498, STN 50-499 Final Report

  • 2 Reportable Deficiency Concer g Beam to Column Connectors for Unit 1 On December 27, 1978, Houston Lighting and Power Co. provided your office with an interim report describing the failure to properly consider application of certain postulated loads in the interior struc-tural steel beams design for the Unit 1 Reactor Containment Building for the South Texas Project. An extensive review of the design veri-fication program was conducted. This review has shown conclusively, that this deficiency, if left uncorrected, would not have resulted in a significant safety hazard.

A final report on this deficiency is attached.

Further questions should be directed to Mr. D. G. Barker, Manager, South Texas Project, at (713) 676-8891.

Very truly yours, C?
