Reference:
Inspection Report No. 70-824/79-1
Dear Mr. Sutherland:
This is in response to the referenced inspection report and the attached notice of violation.
I have reviewed your letter of March 9, 1979 and the reference and found that they contain no information that I consider to be proprietary.
Regarding the deficiency noted in the report - a new log book has been developed and is in use for Hot Cell No. 1.
The new document is explicit in requiring the entry of the amounts of Zircaloy and This was plutonium that results from fuel rod sawing operations.
done to correct the omission of the plutonium entry noted by the inspector. It also serves to prevent a recurrence.
A revision of procedure BW-HC-110 that no longer requires the hot cell supervisor to initial each entry in the log has been approved.
The hot cell supervisor will initial entries until this revised procedure is distributed. The distribution of the revised pro-cedure, which is eminent, will prevent a recurrence of the omission noted in the reference.
I feel that the Lynchburg Research Center is now in full compliance.
Very truly yours, M O M O c> N,\\
T. C. Engelder, Director Lynchburg Research Center TCE:jgb iW GALOOPL, e
