Salem Nuclear Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey (DN 50-272) (DN 50-311)
Subject:
BOM3 THREAT On July 30, 1979, at approximately 4:40 a.m.,
a telephone call was received at Salem by a member of the security force from an unidentified male, who stated, "There is a bomb in Salem and if you don't think I'm serious wait until the demonstration next week."
There was no reference as to Unit 1 or Unit 2.
Search procedures were initiated in both units with negative results.
The New Jersey State Police, LLEA, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and New Jersey Department of Energy were notified by the licensee.
The FBI was notified through the New Jersey State Police.
Media interest is expected.
The State of New Jersey has been informed.
A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.
The IAT has been notified.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone call from NRC Resident Inspector at 8:45 a.m., on 7/30/79.
