' 2ceaed By Nuclear Material and Safeguards Dear Mr. MacDonald; In accordance with the provisions of 10CFR70.33, the Nuclear Assurance Corporation hereby applies for renewal of Special Nuclear Material License No. SNM-1473.

This license is re-quired to permit delivery of special nuclear material, byproduct material and source material to a carrier for transport in the NAC-1 Shipping Container.

Specific information pertinent to the NAC-1 Cask, the conditions specified for its use and the applicable quality assurance pro-gram under which the casks were fabricated are contained in References (A) through (E) inclusive.

Additional information as required by 10CFR21 and 10CFR22 are provided as follows:

The name of the applicant for the renewal of License No. SNM-1473 is the Nuclear Assurance Corporation (NAC).

The license is requested to permit the delivery of the NAC-1 Shipping Package to a carrier for trans-port from or to USNRC licensed facilities.

All cask loading and unloading will be accomplished at such licensed facilities.

(3)

The license is requested for a period of four years or for the current renewal period, whichever is longer.

(4)

The material to be transported will be limited to the contents as specified for the package in Section 5.(b) of Certificate of Compliance 6698.

(5)

NAC personnel engaged in the handling, loading or shipping of the NAC-1 shipping container are engi-neers specifically trained in the use of the package and the applicable regulations.

The company has been transporting material under the provisions of Certi-ficate of Compliance 6698 and SNM-1473 for the past four years.

(6)

The equipment and facilities to be used will be that provided by the USNRC licensed facilities at which the package loading or unloading is performed.

(7)

The facility at which the package is handled, loaded or unloaded follows procedures specifically approved by the USNRC for that facility and for the use of the NAC-1 Shipping Package.

The package criticality and shielding analyses are contained in the Safety Analysis Report or amendment requests and the package contents as to quantity, type and form and fissile class are specified in the certificate of compliance.

All operations are strictly controlled by written and approved procedures to assure compliance with the license and certificate requirements.

A check in the amount of $400.00 is enclosed to cover the license renewal fee.

The amount of the fee is based upon our interpreta-tion of 10 CFR 170.31 as it applies to this renewal application.
