On December 20, 1978, your office was advised by telephone that a defective turbocharger had been discovered on the 16 cylinder diesel engine generator IC. supplied by Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. of Houston, Texas.

Dis mery was rade by a Stewart 5 S'evensen Servin s Inc. Service Engineer.

Further investigation of the rectining two 16 cylinder and three 12 cylinder turbochargers by a representati 'e from the Electro Motive Division of General Motors Company, LaGrange, Illinois plant resulted in his reconnendation to replace the two remain,qo 16 cylinder enoine turbo-chargers.

The three original turbcchargers have been returned to the Electro Motive Division of General Motors with a request tha' we be informed of the cause of failure which occurred on the IC unit.

Three new turbocha gers will be supplied under warranty by the Electro Motive Division.

Two o# the units have been installed under the supervision of Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc.

The third unit has not as yet been shipped from LaGrange, Illinois.

He have been inforned by Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. by telephone, on January 17, 1979, that they have been attempting to obtain information from the Electro Motive Division of General Motors regarding the failure; however, due to the severe weather conditions in the Chicago area and long holiday season, they have been unable to advise us as to the cause of failure and corrective action to be taken.
