Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
This telegram is to confirm the telecon between Tant Weste-man (Region I-AEi:).
and J.G. lierbein (TM1-Station Superintendest) at 1130 hours0.0131 days <br />0.314 hours <br />0.00187 weeks <br />4.29965e-4 months <br /> 24 Decenter 1974.
On Dec.smber 24. 1974 during routine surwillowce operation of Emergency Diesel Generatoe EG-Y-10. in preneration for taktr.414 Emergency Ofesel out of servlee for maintspance, a small rim occurred in the lagging around the diesal engine exhaust unifold adj.w. ant to the turbocharger exhaust gas inlet.
The fire was promptly extinguished and the diesel engine was shutdown.
Ao insnediate inspection of the engine revealed no apparent damage.
The Diesel Generatar was re-started and the operational tarve111ance procedure was coo-pleted satisfactorily.
The Diesel Generator was then returned to service, kt investigation to detsruine the cause of the fire indicated that a small amount of luta 011 leek 4qa fmm an engine inspection cover plata joint had soaked into the axhaust manifold lagging.
The oil soaked la591pg was in torn ignited by the hot engine ruoaust manIfald.
A tamparary "o11 catch tray
- will be inst.11ed under the engine cover plate joint to prevent oil contact wi' the exhaust manifold lagging.
The engine manufacturer will be contacted reganting a permanswt solution to the oil leak. age prehlem.
