Dear Mr. Denton:
In the Matter of the Application of
)
Docket Nos. STN 50-566 Tennessee Valley Authority
)
STN 50-567 Combustion Engineering, Inc., (CE) submitted a topical report entitled
" Class IE Qualification, CENPD 255" for review by the NRC staff in July 1977.
This report will be referenced by TVA and other utility applicants in safety analysis reports submitted in support of license applications. We are concerned that the review of this topical report has been. delayed. We understand that a schedule for completion of this review has not been established.
I In order to meet equipment delivery schedules for the Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant, it is imperative that CE proceed with an equipment qualification program.
Since this program will be referenced in the Yellow Creek Final Safety Analysis Report, we would appreciate your assurance that it meets the intent of your requirements with respect to IEEE 323-1974. Accord-ingly, we request that you expedite the review of CE's Topical Report CENPD-225, and we would appreciate your advising us of the dste you expect the review to be completed and con =ents issued.
We, along with the seven other utilities that will be writing to you on this subject, would be happy to meet with your staff for additional discussions if necessary.
Very truly yours, J. E. Gilleland Assistant Manager of Power
