REVIEW OF TOPICAL REPORT CENPD-255,
" CLASS IE QUALIFICATION" A topical report entitled " Class IE Qualification, CENPD-255" was submitted during July 1977, so that a review could be conducted by your technical staff. The report was submitted by Combustion Engineering, Inc.,
with the expectations that it would be referenced by Utility Applicants during their Licensing processes.
The Combustion Engineering NSSS, which leads the schedule as far as commitment to the Combustion Engineering Topical Report is understood to be Ari:ona Public Service, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station Units 1, 2 and 3 (Docket Nos. STN 50-528, 529 and 530). Combustion Engineering has proposed to JCPSL the use of CENPD-255 as a bases for procurement of Class IE equipment for our Forked River Nuclear Station (Docket No. 50-363).
In order to meet equipment delivery schedules for Arizona and for us to finalize our commitments on the Forked River plant, it is essential that Combustion Engineering proceed with the equipment qualification program outlined in the Topical Report.
It is also essential that we have your comments on the Topical Report to ensure that it meets the intent of your requirements with respect to IEEE 323-1974.
We request that you take the following actions to expedite the Technical Review of Combustion Engineering's Topical Report CENPD-255:
- Provide a date when Technical Review of the report would be completed and comments issued.
- Provide a " mini-review" of the report with comments issued within three months.
