Dear Sir:
On April 5, 1979, a report was made under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) concerning surface rust on the flux thimble tubing for incore instrumentation.
In accordance witt. the reporting requirements of 10CFR21, the following infonnation is submitted:

Westinghouse Electric Corporation P. 0. Box 355 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 25230 D.
Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to comply:
The flux thimble tubing for the incore instrumentation was found to have a moderate to heavy coating of rust on exterior surfaces at the time of unpackaging for installation.
Addi-tional investigation by Westinghouse revealed minor internal rusting of tubing as well.

Westinghouse will replace the flux thimble tubing for incore instrumentation prior to fuel load.
