o Summary of Operating Experience January 1979 Indian Point Unit 3 was synchronized to the bus for a total of 724.0 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
producing a gross generation of, 709,730 mwh for this reporting pariod.
During the reporting period, the unit experienced two reactor trips.
The first trip occurred on January 9 at 12:51 and unit returned to service 19:38 of the same day.
The second trip occurred on January 10 at 09:35 with unit being returned to service at 22:41. Both trips occurred during the performance of a periodic surveillance test overpower, over temperature delta T.
Subsequent investigations attributed the cause of the trips to be intermittent open circuits in one reactor protection system logic train that enabled the trip logic coincidence circuit to be made up.
This problem was found and corrected after the second trip and the unit was subsequently returned to service.
