Cocket No. 99900401/78-02 Combustion Engineering, Inc.

Attn:

Mr. M. R. Etheridge Vice President General Services 1000 Prospect Hill Road Windsor, CT 05095 Gen tlemen:

Thank you for your letter of October 5,1978, in response to our letter of September 6,1978.

As a result of our review, we find that no additional information is needed concerning your response to item E.

We will review your corrective and preventative actions on this and the other items identified in Inspection Report No.

99900401/78-02 during a future inspection.

Concerning item D, since your response did not propose corrective or preventative action relative to CE's process for preparing engineering / purchasing documents or the vendor's design verification process, we assume that you have concluded that these design processes are adequate and that no design corrective action (as defined in Section 9, of ANSI N45.2.ll) is necessary.

We will examine these processes during future inspections at CE and Target Rock; however, please confirm or correct this assumption within the next twenty (20) days.

Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me.

Since rely, J5
