The NRC has amended its. regulations as part of its implementation of the Resident Inspection Program.
The amended regulations implement existing NRC authority to require that licensees previde (1) onsite, rent-frea, exclusive use office space and (2) imediate facility access to Commission inspection personnel.
I enclose a copy of the final rule that was effective September 17.
You have been providing office space at your Shoreham facility and I want to thank you for your cooperation.
The Comission recently approved an expansion of the Resident Ir.spector Program which will increase the number of resident inspectors at this facility to two by October 1981.
An NRC part-time secretary will be provided to the resident office also.
Therefore, I suggest you plan to expand or othemise make available additional office space.
Please infonn the NRC Region ! Director, Boyce H. Grier, within 60 days of your plans to accomodate this NRC staff at your facility.
Should you have any questions or concerns about this new rule or about the increased number of the resident inspector staff, please contact the NRC Regional Director.
