Amendment No.1 to Material License No. SNM-1844 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY and SAN DIEGO GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY hereby submit application for Amendment Number 1 to NRC Materials License Number SNM-1844.
This amendment consists of an increase to thirty-five (35) grams in the maximum amount of U-235 in any enrichment that the licensee may possess at any one time under this license.
In the event of a conflict, the information in this application for Amendment No. 1 to Materials License SNM-1844 supersedes the information previously submitted.

AMENDMENT 1 to Materials License Number SNM-1844 for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2&3 Revise item 8, maximum aeount that licensee may possess at any one time under this license, to "A.
Thirty-five (35) grams of U-235 at any enrichment" REASON Four (4) additional fission chambers, originally purchased as part of the nuclear instrumentation system (NIS) control channels, 2 per unit, need to be stored onsite. These 4 additional fission chambers contain a total of approximately 3.2 grams of U-235.
Also, an undetermined number of spare fission chambers for the NIS safety channels will need to be stored onsite.
To provide for storage onsite of the 3 2 grams of U-235 in the control channel fission chambers and U-235 in spare safety channel fission chambers in addition to the maximum amount of 20 grams of U-235 currently permitted under this license, it is requested that the maximum amount of U-235 at any enrichment that the licensee may possess at any one time under this license be increased to thirty-five (35) gr am s.
