Dear Mr. Grier:

Subject:

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 IE Bulletin No. 79-18 This letter reports the progress of our work to provide necessary improvements to the Emergency Evacuation Alarm System at the Oyster Creek Station. In accordance with our September 21, 1979 response to IE Bulletin No. 79-18, new speakers, conduit and wiring have been added in the designated problem areas and are awaiting final connection and powering. We have elected to utilize strobe IIte devices for visual alarm in those high noise areas of the plant where the quality of audible alarms would be uncertain. Sub-stantial progress has been made for these installations as well.

Delays in the arrival of necessary installation materials have caused the origin?,11y proposed schedule for completion to be revised. As of the date of this memo, we have received all materials necessary, provided approximately 95% of the required conduit installation, installed approxi-mately 60% of the required wiring and have addressed certain of the procedures requiring revision. Remaining work includes the completion of the strobe lite installation, mounting and wiring outdoor speaker horns received on December 5, 1979, installing additionally required amplifiers and the power-Ing of circuits for use.

We wish to note that some portion of the installation delay is attributable to an increase of scope of the original schedule provided in our September 21, 1979 response. Coverage of Emergency Evacuation Alarms has also been extended to the following areas:

North Guardhouse Internal Areas New Warehouse Facility Chlorination Building Pretreatment Building j g 4 l} Q 4 l3 Outdoor Speakers to Cover New Trailer Deployment

IE Bulletin No. 79-18 December 6,1979 New Office Building Lavatories Added Visual Requirement to identified Boiler House Internal Areas in order to complete the required accessible area installations, we have determined that an extension in schedule to December 21, 1979 Is required.

The presently inaccessible areas will be tested and corrected as necessary during our January 1980 refueling outage as originally Indicated.
