R. H. Engelken, Assistant Director for Construction & Operations Directorate of Ragulatory Operations BABCOCK & WILCOX REPORT NUISER BAW 1403, REV. 1, JUNE 1973.

" INVESTIGATION OF MAJOR COMPONENT WELD RECORDS."

4 The subject report has been reviewed and it is noted that the lots of 70XX and 80XX weld fill'r metal with undocumented mechanical properties, e

have satisfactory documentati,on of their chemistry.

Experience has demonstrated that the tensile and impact values of 70XX and 80rC veld metals al=ost always exceeds the ASTM minimum requirements.

Therefore, it is concluded that there is some assurance that the mechanical properties of these lots of 70XX and 80XX materials will be within a :ceptable tolerances.

We recommend no further action en this matter solely on the basis that removal and replacement of the weld metal in the completed vessels would at this time be more deleterious than acceptance as is.

Since the docu=entation of the mechanical properties is a requirement of the code to which these major components were designed and fabricated, B&W should be required to pursue this matter further with the cognirant code committee.
