Mile Island Unit No. I construction site, conducted April 5 through 8, 1971, by Messrs. Hunnicutt, Howard, Tillou and Hayward, is forwarded for information.

l Two apparent. items of nonconformance were identified and a Construction Deficiency Notice forwarded to the licensee. The first nonconformance item was identified as a failure of the computer to fully route all cables contrary to the specifica-g tion and the second item was related to the separation of redundant motor control centers.

The core flooding tanks originally fabricated for installation in Unit No. I have been rejecteq due to failure to meet the NDTI requirements for unrestricted service at 6-400F and 60 F as required in the FSAR.

One core sample hqs been compression tested and one core sample tensile pulled j

in an effort to eqtablish the concrete strength and bonding along the joint between cured concrete and concrete poured when the neasured surface temperature of the surfaces to be in contact with the newly placed concrete was below 32 F.

The compression cylinder failed at 4050 psi after nine weeks. The specified strength is 5000 psi in twenty-eight days. Met Ed does not intend to perform additional testing at this time.
