Subject:
Three Mile Is'~d Nuclear Station Unit.1 Docket No 30-289 License No. DPR-50 Inspection of Reactor Internals After Hot Functional Testing
Dear Dr. Knuth:
The inspections and investigations reported in Mr. J. G. Miller's letter of April 26, 1974, to Dr. D. F. Knuth have been completed.
A detailed inspection of the entire reactor internals package, reactor vessel, and closure head by Quality Control indicated that no damage was caused by the nut and '; hat the nut was not part of the reactor components.
The reactor coolant system and associated systems were reviewed by GPU Service Corporation.
It is concluded that the nut was of foreign origin and was not a part of these systems or the components of these systems (i.e., valves, pumps, mo: ars).
An AEC-DRO Inspector examined the. " Addendum to Inspection Record B-9, IFI-115", dated May 2, 1974, which documented the results of the reactor internals foreign material investigation and considers this item resolved per Inspection No. 50-289/74-22 dated May 8, 1974.
Very truly yours, 7,,
