Operating License No. OPR-50 Oceket No. 50-289 Fire Protecticn Program By our letter of June 12,1978 (GQL 1068), in response to Position Ph, Met-Ed cc=mitted to installing fire detectors in all safety-related cabinets in the Centrol Eccm. Met-Ed stated that the design for these detectors vculd be ecm-pleted by September 30, 1978.
McVever, additional locatiens for fire detector installaticas were identified in response to Question Q8 (certain areas in the Reactor Building, Intermed-iate Building, and Contro] Rocm), and in response to additional NRC cencerns (Decay Heat Removal P2mp Pits, Decay Heat Clcsed Cooling Pamp and Nuclear Ser-vice Closed Ccoling Pamp areas, and MCC 1A and 13 areas; and "akeup and P2rifica-tien Pump Cubicles, Valve Gallery, and area directly east of the Valve Gallery area).
Met-Ed has included the Control Rec = cabinet fire detector installation design as part of the overall detector installation design scope.

Mr. Zwetzig indicated that February 15, 1979 is acceptable provided that the detector modifica-tions will be P211y implemented by the end of the 1980 refueling cutage, per previous Met-Ed cctmitment. Met-Ed vill ec=plete detector installation by the end of the 1960 refueling cutage.
