N/S DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSE:
N/S REVIEW STATUS:
N/S On July 31, 1971, Denwood Ross documented his subject dose calculations and concluded that the Met-Ed purge doses are less than 10% of Part 100 guidelines.
On July 24, 1972, H.
Faulkner infornally sent us a copy of the safety evaluation of the TMI-l combustible gas control system, dated July 19, 1972.
The safety evaluation states that the hydrogen (H ) Purge whole body dose is about 4 rem, 2
which should be verified by Site Analysis Branch.
Our verification concludes that purging for 45 days will result in a whole body of 1.64 rem and a thyroid dosa of 1.50 ram.
Purging for longer times will not affect the thyroid dose, as the I-131 has decayed sufficiently to be non-contributive to the dose.
However, the whole body dose will be affected by longer purge times singe the Kr-85 source strength is essentially constant during these time periods.
If purge continues for greater than about 70 days, the whole body dose will exceed 101 of Part 100 criteria.
Tne details supporting our conclusions are enclosed.
A purge rate lower than 15 cfm will reduce the calculated dores.
