In accordance with the subject Bulletin, the Staff of the James A.
Fit: Patrick Nuclear Power Plant has reviewed the application of ASCO Solenoid Valves which are utilized within the primary containment. We have determined, this date, that an ASCO Solenoid Valve (02-SOV-39) which operates a 1" air operated valve (02-A0V-39) in the Reactor Water Sample line from the Reactor Water Recirculation System, has acetal plastic and Buna N material. This valve functions as the sample line "inside" primary containment isolation valve.
Outside the primary containment the line reduces to 3/4" and has installed another air operated isolation valve (02-A0V-40). Downstream of this valve the sample line reduces to 3/8" stainless steel tubing with an additional manually operated isolation valve at the sample sink which is normally closed.
Because of the si:e of the line in question, and the normally closed valve at the sample sink, it is our opinion that the use of the Solenoid Valve containing the acetal plastic and Buna N material is not of immediate concern.
We are ordering replacement parts as prescribed by the hfanufacturer, however, delivery is not expected any earlier than eight (8) to ten (10) weeks.
We will replace the acetal plastic and Buna N material containing parts in the Solenoid Valve at the earliest date commensurate with access to the primary containment.
