Dear M Heltemes:
Subject:
BOPSSAR, Docket STN50-560 The December, 1978 Report to the Advisory Committde on Reactor Safeguards in the matter of BOPSSAR-BSAR-205 identified two (2) outstanding issues.
These were:
(1)
The design analysis for containment sliding under earthquake loads, and (2)
Starting voltage for B&W scope of supply mo-tors.
With regard to Item 1, enclosed are five (5) copies of the final report " Tests to Evaluate Coefficient of Static Friction Between Steel and Concrete" prepared by the Portland Cement Association.
This report documents the results of tests requested by the NRC during their review of BOPSSAR, and of other applications incor-porating a spherical steel containment.
Reference section 3.8.1 of NUREG 0315, Safety Evaluation Report, BOPSSAR-RESAR-41.
With regard to Item 2, the Babcock & Wilcox standard design, BASR-205, will be revised by them to incorporate motors designed for starting at a minimum voltage of 70%.
B&W has notified Fluor of this design change for incorporation into our standard design.
Amendment 21 will be submitted revising BOPSSAR to incorporate the new information discussed above.
Very truly you 2,
/
T.
