,b.,.8 January 29, 1980 Mr. Robert Hall Brookhaven National Laboratory Building 130 Upton, New York 11973
Dear Mr. Hall:
As we agreed, by telecon on January 28, 1980, we will meet in Bethesda, Maryland, on February 5,1980 to discuss the progress of our fire protecthn progran. The agenda for this meeting is enclosed.
Based on our di:cussions in December 1979 and our subsequent agreement that BNL should increase the number of personnel assigned, we have advised our management that our backlog of fire protection evaluations would be completed by April 1980. We had hoped that these additional personnel would be assigned by January 1,1980; however, it now appears that additional fire protection engineers will not be assigned until February 8,1980. Please have BNL take the appropriate actions so that this date is not missed also.
We will be reporting monthly to our management on the status of our progress using the enclosed summary for n.
We would like the individual plant status sheets and the summary for n updated each month. For the sux.ary form, you only need to state the number of items completed by BNL for each plant. These forms should reflect the status of the evaluations as of the first of each month.
On January 26, 1980, we transferred the responsibility for completing the fire protection program evaluations for six sites to DSS, These sites are: Beaver Valley 1, Cooper, Crystal River 3 Nine Mile Point, Surry 1 and 2, and Prairie Island 1 and 2.
Your contractors should defer working on these plants until further notice. At some time in the future, we will arrange for the transfer of the infonnation on these plants from your contractors to the DSS contractors. There may be one or more meetings at some future date of all parties to assure a smooth transfer of responsibility and continuity of the evaluations.
Sincerely, r
7 Robert L.
